About Me

I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) and Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) with over 12 years of experience in British Columbia and Alberta. I am also a PhD candidate and intend to register as a psychologist in BC within the next year.

I began my helping profession in 2007 as a behavioural interventionist and crisis line responder prior to completing my master’s degree in counselling psychology. Since working in the mental health field, I have provided therapeutic support at non-profit organizations, through employee assistance and family programs, at government agencies, and in private practice. I have worked with individuals and couples from diverse backgrounds dealing with various issues such as infidelity, trauma, depression, anxiety, body image, chronic disease, low self-esteem, family conflict, immigration/integration challenges, work–life balance, grief, relationship deterioration, decision-making, and academic or career distress. During the early years of my practice, I focused on two areas of expertise: women’s health and mental health issues, and working with an immigrant population.

Passionate also about physical wellness and community health, alongside my psychology training I completed a BA in Health Sciences at Simon Fraser University. To further pursue this interest, I began my PhD at the School of Public Health at the University of Alberta in 2017. During the past five years, in addition to teaching, I have been conducting and leading research projects focused on residents in long-term care and assisted living, heart disease, cancer, diabetes, domestic violence, Indigenous health, and the mental health and well-being of mothers of chronically ill children. As an academic I place a strong emphasis on intertwining and highlighting the importance of mental health in the research that I conduct. My knowledge of various health and mental health topics in a research capacity allows me to further connect with my clients and to understand a broader range of issues brought into session. As an individual, I believe continuous learning is essential for growth. I enjoy reading, regularly attending trainings, and engaging in learning opportunities to expand on the therapeutic techniques and knowledge I can offer to my clients. In my spare time, I enjoy travelling, spending time with my loved ones, and finding hidden gems in the city to dine at!
